Casky founder, Abid Khirani, travelled 25 hours from Morocco to Kigali, Rwanda where the Pitchdrive Asia tour has begun with a two-day bootcamp. It is the longest trip to bootcamp so far.
In addition to interactive sessions and fireside chats, the group has been taking in the sights and sounds of Kigali since their arrival. And we made a quick video.
The last day of bootcamp kicked off with a session led by Jackson Ogallo from PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Rwanda. During his session, founders discussed how to set up a business that is attractive to investors globally. There was a break-out session with founders working in groups to discuss organisational structure and needs, product development and consumer satisfaction using fictional organisations.
The first session was quickly followed by a fireside chat with Andreata Muforo, a Partner at TLCom Capital. Moderated by Co-Creation Hub’s Director of Incubation, Damilola Teidi, the chat centered around teaching the founders how to position their startups for the right investments.
Mentorship sessions followed immediately, some remotely, others physically at the Design Lab’s beautiful office space (seems to be a thing in Kigali).
Lunch break over, the founders quickly went into the last session for the day. Led by John Kimani, Developer Ecosystem Project Manager at Google, the session was focused on storytelling. How do you tell a compelling story around the problems your startup is solving?
Founders got the chance to see how well they could answer this after the session at their first pitch event which held at the GIZ Rwanda Country Office.
The tour continues as the group heads to its first stop in Asia – Singapore. This means more interactive and mentorship sessions, more pitch deck reviews and pitching, possible funding and building connections that will foster partnerships between the Asian-African deep technology and hardware sectors.
